Honeybee Engagement Project
The UBC Honeybee Engagement Project’s goal is to establish a program which enables students and the wider community to have an opportunity to gain experiential, sustainability-focused learning through involvement with honeybees. The project aims to to provide opportunities to learn about these pollinators and what can be done to support them. Through UBC Farm, we will be facilitating educational workshops and community service-learning. Our goal is to establish a coordinator handbook, bee-keeping manual, and volunteer base which will ensure the program can remain active in the future for people interested in being involved with the bees.
The greater goal is to increase awareness about the integral way in which human food security is contingent upon pollinators. This project addresses the current global phenomenon of bee population decline by tending to the health of pollinators in urban environments and sharing this interest and skills among volunteers, children and the greater community.
