The Greenhouse Fence Project

UBC is famous for many things: world-class education, a collective vision of a sustainable future and one of the most involved student bodies in North America. Couple that with constant support for student initiatives and you have an unstoppable combo (and 350 student clubs). The Greenhouse Fence Project brings together the best of the best: talented and driven students to go beyond concept and vision into rolling up our sleeves and making sustainable living a reality.

The idea is to develop a completely self-sustaining vertical greenhouse that will be able to replace idle fence with beautiful, minimal resource-consuming gardens. It’s an idea that will allow the health-savvy Vancouver resident living in 300 square feet of space to pick fresh tomatoes for their morning salad. It’s the idea that will let a suburban family line their front yard with a wall of flowers blooming year round for the same cost and care of your standard wood fence.  It’s the idea that’s almost too ambitious for a bunch of university students: except it’s not.

As a student myself, I have seen countless passionate and talented people stuck in internships that have them filing papers instead of inspiring them to reach their potential. We’re here to challenge you to go beyond what you think a student can do, to take risks, interact with dedicated people and get real, applicable experience both within and beyond your field of study. Irregardless of your time commitments or degree, I’m here to invite you to be a part of the coolest thing to hit campus since swively chairs.

Let’s have some fun people!
