With the winter break fast approaching the team is getting ready to do some major work on the car. We will be tearing down the car and safety testing every part on the car to make sure that they are up to the standards required for the Knox Mountain Hill Climb. This is going to be a very large undertaking and the tear down and rebuild will probably take up most of the break. The team will be spending long days in the bay to get the car prepared to start racing again come January.
A large portion of the team will be working on building the battery boxes that will host the 72 batteries that the funding from AMS Sustainability has helped us purchase. These pods are going to be a brand new type of build for the team as we will be working with carbon fibre to reduce the weight of the structure and increase the strength. A few of our senior members are working on a new aerodynamic body shell for the team. This week they will be running testing in the wind tunnel to measure the performance gains from the new shell design.
The body shell is well on the way to being repaired and sent off for painting. In its current state it has been sanded and the fibre glass repairs are being done. Then all there is to do is sand down and then polish the body, and send it off for painting and branding!
The team has made lots of progress as far as making sure that the team will have the appropriate resources to complete the project before our large race in May. With the success of the team this year we are really hoping that we can help shift the paradigm that electric racing is the future for motorsport. We can’t wait to get the car out racing again!
